Controversy

Shanin Specter's father, Arlen Specter, was the second longest running U.S.Senator in the nation's history, in the state of Pennsylvania-serving from 1981 until 2011. As such, he nominated approximately 40 Federal District Court and 25 Third Circuit Appellate Judges to the bench. This is often obtained by candidates by making large contributions to the politicians. Most if not all, were approved. He also was instrumental in the appointment of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. Shanin Specter's law firm of Kline Specter, LLC is one of the wealthiest in the area predominantly through medical malpractice and insurance claims. As the son of such an influential public official, that would produce conflict of interest in litigation if undisclosed to the parties. This was eventually noticed by the media in a several articles when Senator Specter represented a twice convicted mobster, Louis DeNaples in an effort to have a ban on banking removed from him. Reputable news organizations such as Citizens Voice, McCall and Pennlive reported on this issue.
